Flat Warts - What You Must Know to Avoid Catching Them and How You Can Get Rid of Them

by : Sheri Cole

Flat warts are normally very small. They are no bigger than the size of a pinhead and are more even to the feel compared to other kinds of warts. Their most distinguishing trait is their flattened tops. Flat warts on the skin can look yellow, pink, or light brown. They appear mostly in the facial areas but can also be found on hands and arms. Even though they are mild in nature, they can affect a person's looks a great deal. These warts can also be painful and itchy.

These warts might not be easily recognized for what they are at first. You might think they are acne or some sort of skin bump but you might also notice that they start to multiply and soon you may have dozens of them on your face, ruining your perfect complexion. These are, in fact, warts and must be treated as such if you want to get rid of them for good.

Flat warts are contagious and they can be transmitted by direct bodily contact and sharing of things for intimate use with somebody who has flat warts. Sharing razors, towels and other facial care items is never a good idea and certainly not if the other person has flat warts. This is because they are caused by a virus - the human papillomavirus and this virus can be spread through tiny cracks in the skin. The virus is picked up from one person and then transmitted to the next via either touch or by sharing one of the items listed above.

Also, Flat warts can also affect the genital area. This kind or warts are transmitted through sexual contact with someone who has them. Sufferers of genital warts are often not aware that they are afflicted, so they are most likely to pass it on to their partners which is why it is important to be aware of your and your partners health aspects before engaging in sexual relations.

Although flat warts disappear by themselves, there are also times that they don't, so treatment is necessary. There are quite a few home treatments and even some herbal remedies that purport to treat warts, but if you have them on the face, you might want to seek the help of your dermatologist so that he can prescribe a method that will not leave scarring. Here are some ways to treat flat warts:

1. Laser surgery

2. Topical medications like medicated creams, lotions, and ointments. In order to prevent and adverse side effects or to avoid any injury, instructions must be carefully followed.

3. Cauterization

4. Surgical removal

Flat warts may not be a serious health problem but they can still cause a lot of trouble and who wants bumps on their face even if they don't look like a traditional wart? That's why you might need to explore a variety of options in order to get rid of your warts for good. Remember, not every treatment will work the same for everyone so you might have to try a few before you can regain your smooth, wart-free complexion.
